SHAMORGA is a one-man project of Estonian musician Wolos. Both as a musician and a member of his label Unholy Icon, Wolos has established himself as a unique voice in new music. Focusing on the horrors of black metal and ambient, his music is darkly magical and deeply atmospheric, inspired by his signature surrealism. A tireless explorer of sound, Wolos approaches songwriting using raw guitars as a dark noise from the depths of hell, analog and digital manipulation to create a virtually endless array of tones and textures. Sound fragments are freed from their original context and take on astonishing new forms, creating works that transcend time and genre. Each track, to one degree or another—whether noticeably or almost imperceptibly—contains drones derived from field recordings: wind noise, desert ruins, birds of prey, as well as cacophonous screams and howls both during the day and at night. The goal was to create a foundation for an almost nonverbal ceremonial act through sound, in order to summon the ghostly offspring of demonic spirits of wind, night, and storm, as well as phantoms. The spells recorded by Wolos are almost bodiless incantations, both evoking and manifesting ghostly shrieks from… the Abyss. The spells are written in dead languages that have no native script of their own and are transmitted only orally, from the chosen to the chosen, from mouth to ear.
